A season that won’t be missed PART 1
By: Mostafa | June 8th, 2009This post I will sum up everything that has happened this season, around the Serie A.
Let’s get started…

Let me take the teams one by one as objectively as possible.
Inter Milan

Another congratulations is in order for another successful season, they won it again but this time more deservedly than the last few. They were the team to beat this year, and they came through winning the Serie A again, but this year also was different they didn’t win because of their own greatness (only) they also won because of their weak competition, Juve and Milan Certainly didn’t deserve to win anything this year, and Roma fell out of the big four all in all, So this season was for the taking to Inter Milan and they didn’t hesitate.
But one very notable thing about Inter this year is Mourinho’s Arrival he was brought on to add to their silverware not keep it constant, he was supposed to get them further into the Champs, although they did not deserve to lose to Manchester they still have no excuses, in my opinion Jose Mourinho has failed at Inter and only managed to integrate his big mouth in Calcio, but in the end it was his team who proved them selves to everyone champions.
Although they did win this year many would STILL argue that Inter had Some whistles thrown their way but this season it wouldn’t have even mattered.
They ended this year with 25 Wins 9 Draws 4 Losses 70 GF 32 GA 84 PTS

Juventus

This team should have fought harder, they should/could/would/kould/dould/*ould have won, they had a great team, they had a regular season, but maybe the problem was Ranieri and this is why they should be great next year, I honestly think they will compete for something next year, and they showed signs of finally returning from Calciopoli.
They didn’t have much luck with Chelsea in the draw but they did entertain and all of Italy was behind them that match, but fate wouldn’t have it, still it is not the year of the Italians, Although we can see a pattern forming in CL, English team -> Spanish team -> ?????? (Italian team!)
They still had injuries through out the season, but Del Piero showed some quality free kicks and set pieces that would make a textbook blush with envy.
They are one of the reasons why I think that, next year would be a very interesting season, both on a European and domestic front.
They also had no luck in coppa, a trophy less season more or less.
They finished calcio with 21 Wins 11 Draws 6 Losses 69 GF 37 GA 74 PTS
One word that will give hope for Juventus next year : “Amauri”
————————————————————————————————–
AC Maldini

Tragic ending to an epic career.

After serving Ac Milan his entire career, he gets booed on his last day, this man dedicated his life to football and has earned a place in the hearts of every Calcio loving person on earth.
(BTW i meant for the video to do that)
Now let’s talk about Associazione Market Milano/Associazione Calcio Mercato:
Why do I say this, well not one, but two reasons for this.
Respectively:
These were two signing that only meant on thing for Milan, More shirts would be sold, because in my opinion these players, well they aren’t THAT BAD **cough**(loria)**cough**, but certainly not Milan calibre players. In my opinion two of the worst signings this year as a whole, just think of what could have been done with their money, a shame really considering they were super in their days , the following comparison of Ronaldinho should suffice in order to end this Milan part and progress with this post.

All in all Milan had a mediocre season, topped off with a Maldini departure, but bear in mind they tied with Juve points-wise and now in my opinion if Milan sell Kaka And/Or Pato they will be worthless!
These Rossoneri finished the season with 22 Wins 8 Draws 8 Losses 70 GF 35 GA 74 PTS

ACF Gilarentina

The purple wonder kids in my interpretation, they have proven themselves worthy of CL time and time again, although they aren’t considered Big Four in Serie A, they have proven that they have the heart of champions. But the worst thing about them is their inability to progress in CL. And whenever i say the word Fiorentina 4 people pop up in my mind, Batigol / Tonigol / Mutu / Gilardino(gol) well that last addition will prove to be deadly next year if Mutu is healthy, which he proved to be a hell of a player this year (refs to genoa match)
They fully deserved the CL spot, but then again so did genoa…..
it was a case of Mutu/Gila Vs Militio.
The men from Florence have ended this season with 21 Win 5 Loss 12 Draw 53 GF 38 GA 68 PTS
————————————————————————————————-
-
Genoa

Team of the year in my opinion, I mean who would have thunk it , but I fear it will be a case of “easy come, easy go” for them next year, Milito was their star, and now he’s started the road to Milan (The bluer side of Milan). I mean if you remove Milito from the equation of Genoa=Milito + Others you will have a great outcome
Let’s try that equation.
Genoa = Milito + Others
Genoa – Milito = Others
Hmm interesting let’s how they do next year in Europa.
Overall they had a Fantastic season, they have established themselves among the best in Italy for this year. I still stress that next year will be tougher for them. They also deserved a CL spot but Fiorentina turned out to be the fastest horse on the “Last CL spot championship” and apparently Roma were supporting a pony in that competition.
I would also like to remind you of the last games of Genoa and Fiorentina;
Genoa : Lecce
– 4 –:– 1 –
Milan..: Fiorentina
– 2 –: — 0 —
Genoa finished like so: 19 Wins 11 Draws 8 Losses 56 GF 39 GA 68 PTS
Genoa – Milito = Others
Well enough about genoa and lets move on to the last team representing Italy in Europe next year….
————————————————————————————————–
ROMA

Now when did this happen??? I don’t recall Totti and/or Aquilani Running in the same training session together??
If you really want a picture to summarize their season I would pick this;

Let me try to find the right words to describe their season…. Utter Disaster.
Constant injuries, bad mentality, bad mercato blame what you want, this season was shit for Roma,
A nice graph I made about Roma’s season

but it cannot be denied that there were bright spots in their season.
Roma’s Bright Spots:
Another good thing in the roman season this year, was that they were the closest team to progress in CL this year, but penalties are just killers. Next year they will have to do well in Europa they could easily score a European Championship for Italy next year, if and Italian team does win the Cl and Roma(/ Genoa) win the Europa Italy will be back in business.
These guys finished with this; 18 Wins 9 Losses 11 Ties 64 GF 61 GA 63 PTS
————————————————————————————————
Now these teams are the top 6 Italians they will be representing Italy next year. Let’s wish them all good luck and Go win us some trophies!
But lets see some weird facts in the final table this year:

*= They are the 4th best Attacking team 64 Goals, but they are also the 5th worst defending team ( the other three are relegated, and Bologna just survived)
Don’t you just love Calcio See you guys next post!

Roma fan here. Indeed, I already miss calcio. Great analysis. I agree, Roma is the weirdest squadra in serie a… but I love’em!!

I happened to find myself at this blog by accidentally hitting the wrong button at the top.
I have to say that this is a pretty creative, if not exactly factual, season review.
For example, apart from the relative weirdness of this post – Inter, Milan, Juve, Fiorentina, Genoa and Roma are not the only Italian teams to go into European Competition…

Right on, brother! Genoa was the team of the season and if they qualified for CL, they would not sell Milito and Motta.
Good season for Chievo as well. Thought they were going down for sure!Posted from

Mad, I think most of us don’t count “lazio” as a team that deserves to compete in Europe next year…..They are lucky that they are getting that shot at it. Italian or not, I’d like to see them crumble!

Oh, and that photo of Inter getting the trophy… That was from last year. I am pretty certain that Roberto Mancini was not at this year’s presentation.
And, by definition, a team wins because its competition is weaker than they are. Every single year, whichever team wins, it is “because of their weak competition.”

MAD
I know Lazio is going to europe next year but i just chose to ignore that, I wanted to go with the order of the table.. So reaching lazio really wasn’t on my list
Anyway thanks for that comment MAD!
Johonna
I know it’s last years pic but i think you already used up all of this years celebration pics so any pic with inter celebrating was good enough for me
And by weaker competition I meant that there shouldn’t be a 10 point gap between the Champs and the runners up, Last year roma put up a little chase and all of calcio was holding their breath to the very end, but this year it was a hopeless wild goose chase!
Pauly
Thanks for the comments!
Everyone the next post will be out around Friday see you then!Posted from

I have a prediction: Chievo Verona’s goalkeeper Stefano Sorrentino will play for Roma next year.
Don’t let the latest news on Sorrentino fool any of you. He will play in Rome next season.

Well pauly i don’t know, Roma already have 3/4 GK’s IF they don’t sell 2 they won’t buy him, besides do you really think he will replace Doni, i don’t think spal would allow it..

Well, when i said friday, “this hopefully when my exams finish next Friday!” it looks like i meant This friday not last one…

When I saw the 21st comment, I thought: “This must be KJ the coroner”
Samson is apparently M.I.A, maybe kidnapped by aliens or Michael Jackson’s ghost, Mostafa is probably having a well-deserved rest after his exams and Pauly got lost in space (maybe he managed to break into the Playboy mansion he lives nearby).
I won’t be there for long (hospital, argghhhh), so I wish all of you nice holiday
(including you KJ). Have a good time.Posted from
